Tupton Audio Trail
On March 15, 1941 Tupton earned the unenviable record of becoming one of only a few Derbyshire villages to be bombed during the Second World War.
The morning raid killed 11 people, destroyed homes and scarred the landscape. It was a tragedy that has never been commemorated, but now - seventy years on - this audio trail pays tribute to the community’s loss, and re-traces its impact.
From the homes that were demolished on Ward Street to ‘Monkey Hollow’ – a deep crater left in the woods surrounding Tupton Hall School – the trail paints a picture of how the tragedy
shaped the community into the village it is today.
The 1.5 mile route takes around one and a half hours to complete, following paths and roads, with some uphill sections.
The audio trail can be quickly downloaded onto an MP3 player, iPod or mobile phone.
The map and directions are available below, along with a guide to downloading the audio trail.
You can download a zip folder containing all the tracks in one go, a complete podcast or download and listen to the individual tracks, you choose!
